fork

fork (2024) is a limited edition artwork released on the occasion of Maria Amidu’s solo exhibition in the perpetual back and forth (4 May – 8 September 2024), and takes the form of 15 pairs of unique, laser etched prints on the artist’s handmade abaca fibre paper, featuring her writing.

The edition relates directly to the artist’s large-scale paper and audio installation 26,778,780 minutes – over 1,000 etchings of fork separated to the left and right of the gallery during the exhibition, making it impossible for audiences to read the text in its entirety, accompanied by a recording of Maria attempting to recite her own words in Yoruba. As an intentional contrast to her presentation of 26,778,780 minutes, the artist has chosen to mount the two halves of fork side by side for this edition.

26,778,780 minutes was created as part of the artist’s iniva Future Collect Commission and has been acquired by Towner Eastbourne for their permanent collection.
